Groves Yard in The Wychwoods: A Growing Hub for Independent Shops and Creativity
If you’ve visited Groves Yard in the Wychwoods recently, you’ll have noticed some exciting changes taking place.
What has long been a trusted builders merchant in the Cotswolds is evolving into something more—a destination that blends traditional trade supplies with independent retail, creative businesses, and a strong sense of community.
A Builders Merchant with a Modern Vision
At its core, Groves remains a reliable destination for building materials, tools, and DIY essentials in the Cotswolds. Tradespeople and homeowners alike continue to rely on Groves Shop for quality products and expert advice.
But alongside this, Groves Yard is expanding its offering—creating a space that appeals not just to those working on projects, but also to those looking for inspiration – a place to shop, eat, work and come together.
Restoring and Reimagining Historic Spaces
A key part of the transformation is the careful restoration of existing buildings within The Yard.
Unused and older structures are being thoughtfully redeveloped, maintaining their character while giving them a new purpose. This balance of heritage and modern use is what sets Groves Yard apart from other shopping destinations in the Cotswolds.
Recently, we have renovated the Old Garage which was once an unused, rundown building and is now home to Little Fflur, who has created a beautiful florist and gift shop in this place. Presently we are refurbishing the Old Stable Block behind The Elms House where new businesses focused on well being and health will be residing. New windows have been built using traditional methods and hard wood by Oak Windows and Doors, a business located in The Yard who manufactures and installs bespoke timber windows and doors.
With the increase in the number of people visiting The Yard, we are creating a new water closet block, which will include a disabled space that will cater for everyone who uses The Yard.
Supporting Independent Businesses in Oxfordshire
One of the biggest changes at Groves Yard is the growth of independent businesses.
New retail units and refurbished spaces are welcoming a mix of local shops, creative studios, eateries, specialist retailers and service providers. This makes Groves Yard a unique place to shop in the Cotswolds—bringing together craftsmanship, design, and individuality.
Over the next few months, we will be introducing four new businesses to you that will enhance your shopping, eating and relaxation experience at Groves Yard.
By supporting independent retailers in the Wychwoods, Groves Yard is helping to strengthen the local economy and create a destination that feels both authentic and inspiring.
